Professor Harry Lewis
Former Dean of Harvard College, co-author "Blown to Bits"
Gordon McKay Professor of Computer Science
Harry Lewis entered Harvard College in the fall of 1964. Having made no great progress despite his efforts in mathematics, physics, drama, and lacrosse, he stumbled upon computer programming through a part-time job, and fell in love with the emerging field. Lewis's undergraduate thesis, written under the direction of computer graphics pioneer Ivan Sutherland, was on handwriting recognition, parsing handwritten mathematical notation, and their use in experimental mathematics. Lewis graduated from Harvard in 1968, summa cum laude in Applied Mathematics.
During the Vietnam War, Harry Lewis served for two years as a commissioned officer of the US Public Health Service. He served at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, doing work on image processing and on systems and application programming. He spent the academic year 1970-71 in Europe as Frederick Sheldon Traveling Fellow of Harvard University. Lewis returned to Harvard to begin his graduate study in the fall of 1971 and was awarded the PhD in Applied Mathematics in 1974. His PhD thesis was written under the direction of philosophy professor Burton Dreben, on the subject of computational unsolvability in mathematical logic.
He is a Fellow of the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard. Lewis is the author of five books and numerous articles on various aspects of computer science.
From 1995-2003 Lewis served as Dean of Harvard College. In this capacity he oversaw the undergraduate experience, including residential life, career services, public service, academic and personal advising, athletic policy, and intercultural and race relations. He is a long time member of the College's Admissions Committee.

Michael Shaw
President, Freedom Advocates, Proprietor, Liberty Garden
Freedom Advocates represents a cross-section of people from all political parties and backgrounds who are united in the principles of individual liberty, equal justice and the constitutional administration of government. People are born with unalienable rights and government exists to protect those rights. Rather than bureaucrats mandating indoctrination programs, parents should direct the terms of their child's education. Rather than bureaucrats taking the use of private property, the ideals of private property should be protected by government.
Our mission is to advance the principles of freedom to individuals and government through public discourse.

Dr. Latanya Sweeney
Computer Science Technology, Carnegie Mellon University
My overall research goal is to create systems that automatically learn strategic and sensitive information from data, and its converse, to create systems that control what can be learned. Most often, the sensitive information I want systems to learn are ways to relate personal identity to seemingly innocents facts ("re-identification" and "identifiability"). And most often my pursuits in the opposite direction involve creating systems with guarantees that identity cannot be learned ("anonymity") while still making sure the anonymized results remain useful.
My overall research agenda involves leveraging my work on identifiability and anonymity (1) to change the way a computer scientist or engineer thinks about privacy in the technology he creates; (2) to help establish the scientific study of privacy; and, (3) to help decision-makers weave technology and policy together to address today's privacy-technology conflicts.

Joan Veon
Executive Director, The Women's International Media Group,Inc.
Author, "UN: Global Straight Jacket"
Up until September 1994, Joan Veon was just a businesswoman. As a result of attending the United Nations Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, Egypt, she received her "wake up call" as she found there was more going on at the global level than most Americans knew, understood or were being told.
In her determination to understand the global level and what it really means for Americans, Joan has covered over 103 UN and UN-related conferences since Cairo. Joan has written two books, Prince Charles the Sustainable Prince which is in it fifth printing and discusses her belief that when the U.S. Senate signed the U.N. Charter in 1945 is when American officially entered world government and reverted back under British rule. This book documents the role of the British royal family as a formidable power working BEHIND the scenes of the UN and the role of Prince Charles with that of sustainable development and public-private partnerships.
